 Statement of Beliefs
-
We look to the Bible as our source of truth. It tells us who God is. It tells us who we are. It tells us what He desires from us. It tells us how we should relate to one another. Our belief that the Bible is God’s own perfect, infallible, inerrant Word has a tremendous impact on every part of life.
-
Jesus Christ is the focus of our lives. He is our King, and He is building His kingdom each and every day. Because of this, we want to know that He is leading us, and that we are responding to His leadership, as individuals and as a church.
-
Every Christian is called to be personally committed to Jesus Christ as Lord. Our faith should be obedient; our obedience should come from our faith. He speaks to us in His Word and by the conviction and persuasion of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit speaks primarily through the Scriptures, but uses all sorts of means to remind us of what He has said in them - our own conscience, other believers, even the circumstances of life.
-
We strongly believe in the value of relationships with other believers, and encourage small groups (we call them ‘care groups’), accountability groups, and other sorts of gatherings. No one likes conflict, but we’ve learned that ignoring tension only makes it worse. We’ve also learned that when we have safety in relationships, we can talk through the hard things, and not only survive, but thrive!
-
We were created to be fruitful and productive in all of life. In broad terms, this fruitful productivity has two forms. It means helping the lost come to an understanding of Jesus, and put their faith in Him. We long to see those who don’t know Jesus Christ come to know Him. We recognize God’s hand in evangelism; sin has blinded our eyes to what we need most. But the Spirit of God can open blind eyes and enable them to see their need for a Savior.
-
Fruitfulness also means that those who come to Jesus in faith grow in their faith and relationship to Him. The Bible never speaks of faith as being a static sort of thing, or a one-time decision someone makes. To the contrary, we are told in the Bible to build yourselves up in your faith, to add to your faith, to desire the pure milk of the Word, that you may grow, and many other statements like these. The goal is not simply to learn more about the Bible, or about God, but rather to grow to be more like Him.
-
For a long time now we have invested ourselves in international work. We currently have church families who are working in several Asian countries, as well as the Middle East, Africa, and Mexico. Outreach is such an important component of our church’s life that almost every Sunday we have a “missions moment,” a block of time to hear about what is happening around the world.
